In 1888, a court stenographer named Frank Edward McGurrin reportedly won a typing contest in Cincinnati using a method he had taught himself: typing without looking at the keys. His victory popularised what we now call touch typing, a technique in which each finger is responsible for its own zone of the keyboard. More than a century later, the same idea underpins every typing course in the world, including this one.
