School setup and procurement FAQ.
The questions IT leads, data managers and heads of department ask before a school signs up.
Do pupils need email addresses?
No. Paste a list of names and TypingCoach makes a username and a password for each pupil, which you print as login slips and hand out. The login field takes a username or an email address, so pupils who do have school addresses can use those instead.
How do join codes work?
Every class has a short join code. Put it on the board: pupils sign in, enter it once, and they are on your register. There is also a join link that opens with the code already filled in. If a code gets passed around outside the class, issue a new one; everyone already on the register stays on it.
What does the CSV need to look like?
Three columns: name, email, password. Passwords must be at least 8 characters, and pupils are asked to change them the first time they sign in. An email address already on the system is simply added to the class and its password left alone.
Does it work with our MIS?
TypingCoach imports from Bromcom. We issue your school a token; once a school admin stores it, each teacher sees the classes the MIS says they teach this year and provisions one with a click, register and all. Provisioning again next half term tops the class up. Pupils the MIS holds no email address for are skipped, and can be added by name instead.
What pupil data is kept, and for how long?
Keystroke logs exist only to verify scores and are deleted at the end of the term they were recorded in. Attempt summaries (speed, accuracy, lessons completed, badges) form the pupil's learning record and are kept for the life of the account. Accounts unused for two years are deleted with all their data. Your school is the data controller: we process pupil data on your instructions, under a data processing agreement, and delete it when you tell us to. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
Who can see what?
A teacher sees the classes they teach and nothing else. A school admin sees the whole school. A pupil sees their own progress, and a class leaderboard only if their teacher has switched it on. Nobody outside your school sees pupil data, and it is never used for advertising.
How does a school buy it?

Can we try it before any of this?
