What the pack covers

Topics follow the specification's own content areas, so a teacher can set the one the class is on this week.

Understanding Computer Science

  • 1.1 Computer architecture
  • 1.2 How systems are structured and function
  • 1.3 How systems communicate
  • 1.4 Algorithms
  • 1.5 Software
  • 1.6 Logical operations
  • 1.7 Operating systems
  • 1.8 Systems development life cycle

Computer Programming

  • 2.1 Investigation and design
  • 2.2 Implementation
  • 2.3 Testing, refinement and evaluation

Command words and notation

  • 3.1 Command words and operators
  • 3.2 Writing pseudocode

How a lesson works

Each lesson has five parts drawn from its term pool, so nobody memorises one screen of text. The pass mark is 92 per cent accuracy, higher than the touch-typing course, because a misspelled technical term is a wrong answer rather than a slow one. Lessons do not lock, so pupils revise whatever they are covering in class.

Where the terminology comes from

Each pack is curated from the published specification and the Guidance for Teaching for that qualification. We list individual subject terms only, and every definition and example sentence is written from scratch.
